Common Uses

Internal Application

- Diuretic, treating eruptive fevers

- A remedy for colic.

- Useful for the improvement of digestion.

- The roots and leaves are boiled and given to children as a laxative.

- The powdered root of the herb is used as a remedy for paronychia. decoction of the root to cure chronic diarrhea and used to treat uterine diseases.


 
External Application

The leaves of the plant are applied as a poultice to relieve bruises, abscesses, burns, wounds and inflammations. The root is used to treat menorrhagia, gonorrhea, eczema and inflammatory swellings.



Preparation
Infusion: Pour two cups boiling water over one ounce dried leaves. Brew for 10 minutes. Take 1/2 cup twice daily. Same preparation can be used externally.

Leaves can also be eaten raw in a salad of used instead of callaloo as a dish
